On July 28, 2008, the organizing members of WTBA gathered at Gilded Rose Manor in Northridge, CA for tea with owner, Pandora Randall. This was the launch of WTBA. In addition to taking the first steps toward creating a legal organization, the group spent time discussing the nature of the group we want to be part of.
First, and most importantly, we want to provide a service for our members with an inclusiveness of all types of tea professionals joining in membership. Tearooms and other tea retailers may be most recognizable to the consumer, but an association that includes importers, distributors, growers, educators and strong relationships with other professional tea associations is greatly needed.
Secondly, we all agree that communication with the consumers is a goal we all share. And, by clearly defining our membership as tea professionals committed to a quality tea experience, we can help the consumer find value.
